Year of Science CSI@LSI

CSI@LSI Crime SceneIn March 2011 the LSI-GSA was awarded a outreach grant to expand their current CSI@LSI program to an out of town school. On May 27&28th the LSI-GSA welcomed Bella Bella Community School to the LSI to solve the investigation of Eve Hill. The LSI-GSA reviewed several applications from dedicated teachers in various remote communities in BC. After evaluating all the applications the LSI-GSA made the tough decision to invite 19 students from Bella Bella Community School to the LSI. (more photos viewable on our facebook page here.)

CSI@LSI is an engaging outreach activity where students are presented a case to be solved using real scientific experiments and equipment. Based on the television show Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), highly trained graduate students, post-docs, and staff guide students through experiments to help them collect evidence. Once students have worked their way through various stations they use deductive reason to identify the guilty party.

Bella Bella MapCSI@LSI has been described as:

“Scientific Clue”

“A science murder mystery dinner party”

“My favourite TV show in real life”

The LSI-GSA is currently deciding when the next CSI@LSI will be. If you are interested in receiving updates about the CSI@LSI program please join our mailing list.
